My Games

Looking for the Gaming Section of the site? It’s right here. This is just a page about the games we’ve played.

For the amount we get to play lately, we can only justify paying for one subscription MMO (Everquest) and any others (World of Warcraft, Star Wars Galaxies, Everquest II, etc.) have needed to be cancelled.

Below is the online games we’ve played over the years, Chronologically (Is that really a word?) from when we started them. Green = Playing, Yellow = If time stopped and I could play till I was bored of green, Red = Nope. Orange? I’m F#(king serious here.

Tie Fighter / Xwing vs Tiefighter / Xwing Alliance (1997? – 2000)

It shouldn’t really count as an MMO, but we spent a lot of time playing it, using a website called tiecorps.org and emperorshammer.com to track progress and squadron rosters. You played missions (you downloaded a file and put it in the game folder) and submitted the file (after you played it showed the score you got) back to your squadron leader. We had a lot of fun.

EverQuest (2001 – Present)

Has always, always, always been my favorite. Up in Whistler, I was bored and broke. I tried an EQ trial during the early days but didn’t “get it” (I was too dumb) and couldn’t afford to pay per month ( I was too broke). Later I said f#(k it, I wanna play, and bought a copy around when Velious came out. I was working at the Margaritas. Life as a broke ski bum is very predictable, but as a Wood Elf Ranger of Kelethin? Well, I needed an escape I guess! :p Not quitting. Ever. Ever!

Status: Back on our main server and grinding out a thousand AA’s! Couldn’t be happier about it. Love these guys. Looking forward to a real classic server like Al’kabor for PC. I know this is a stupid dream, but hey who ever thought they would put out TLP’s, go free to play, keep the mac server running free to play, etc. You’ve got to have a dream! For me it’s a pop locked server like Al’kabor that I don’t have to “buy a mac” to play on. Again, simple things, done right…

Star Wars Galaxies (2004 – 2006)

I !loved! this game. Man, it was the best. Tending to my harvesters, and raking in tons of credits at the terminals. I took the best of the resources and built structures and harvesters, and that just made that much more credits. We built huge mini cities and set up our houses and workshops. My other toon did Bio-Engineering and cruised the land taming new pets and creating better ones. Those were the good times.

The idiots running the game had no idea how they wanted the game to be. It was constantly changing. They did a “Combat upgrade” that changed a lot. But we rolled with it and respec’ed and kept playing. Then the mother of all f#(kups came along called “The NGE (New Game Experience)”. They killed that game dead. Took all the skill trees away and forced a single class on everyone, and tried to change turn based mmoRPG combat into a bastardized mmoFPS.

Anyways enough ranting. It was great until then, and I wish that NGE had never happened. I’d still be happily playing. Status: They are closing the game. Way to f#(k up, guys…

EverQuest II (2005 – 2006)

Crafting in EQ2 was a great time sink for me (Back when I needed one, lol). All of the classes depended on each other for sub combines, so you needed a lot of alts! This game was fun but there is only so many play hours (and dollars) in a day.

World of Warcraft (2005 – 2008)

Shawn got us this game for Christmas one year and we just kept playing. I tried to quit once but everyone else kept on. I caved. Since then a lot of family and friends have played, which gives me reason to log on :) Not quitting till everyone else does. Um yea. We quit. Lol.

Lord of the Rings Online (2007 – 2008) -> (2010 – a few days later)

Update: This game went free to play on Sept. 10, 2010! I’m playing again from time to time. No. Even for the price of free, couldn’t keep playing. Although I have heard Free Lotro is less restrictive, EQ2X is a lot more fun (better gameplay) for the same free price.

Guild Wars (2008 – Present)

A lot of fun and free! A great game I would play if I had time.

Dungeons and Dragons Online (2009 – a few days later)

Free! But yea. No spare time for this, I have EQ to play.

Everquest II Extended (2010 – Present)

Free! Now, this is what I’m talking about! This version is still fun and you can let it sit idle as much as you want. This version is more than enough for me to get my EQII fix. The crafting rules! Status: A little something on the side.
