Vedder Mountain via Parmenter Road

August 7th, 2007

Was crazy… Uphill biking / walking for at least 20k. We finally got to the Columbia Valley area and started our descent. Crusied for another 7-10k and found our little trail that heads back to Yarrow. Epic.

New Bikes!

June 7th, 2007

Back in the day,

I bought a BMX from the local bike shop in Ladner. It was rad.

Years went by. I was bigger, so I got a mountain bike. I used to ride this from Ladner to my job at a bakery in Tsawassen, and then once the bakery re-located to North Delta, I rode there too. It was about 16km each way.

When I lived in New York, I got a gimpy ten speed with big Pee-Wee Herman bars and rode that thing from 117th Street and Lexington all the way down to my work in the basement of a poker chip factory near the garment district (I can’t remember where exactly :P)

When we lived in Whistler, One of my buddies was upgrading his bike, and sold me his old Kona Cinder Cone. It ruled. Light frame, climbing hardtail. I took that bike up and down the craziest shit. Really, like shit I shouldn’t be here to tell you about :P We rode 40km’s of trails some days. One time I rode to Pemberton and back (75km all together). It fucking got stolen by some construction workers who were building the log mansion next door to our house. This ended another era of biking.

I got a dual suspension bike from Costco which I rode for a year and we kept up with the trail riding, but took it easier. Dual suspension bikes are meant for jumpin, not for climbing. It’s tough.

Cor started talking about getting a new bike, and was looking at the sites around our area. I remembered the Kona and how rock solid it was no matter what the conditions were like, and damn, their frames kick ass. The next day Cor went down to Jack’s Cycle in Sardis and scoped a few Kona’s.

She got the Fire Mountain (18″ Blue frame, disc brakes)

and I got the Lana’i (20″ Red frame, old school Vbrakes, Jackshit pedals)

We went out for a ride up the trail to Vedder Mountain and it was climbing just like I remember it used to be. fucking solid. For a bonus we rode into Yarrow after and grabbed some cold ones to celebrate. Long live the Kona’s!
